IHG 14/15: Netball (F) vs SH

“I hope I don’t have to stand for this match.” – Netball Coach

The moon shone bright in the early night sky as our KE netball players, clad in white bibs. warmed up for their match against Sheares. This was the final preliminary match for our netballers, a crucial match that will decide their place in the semi-finals.

First Quarter

Lineup: Celeste (GS), Dawne (GA), Victoria (WA), Xifan (C), Klara (WD), Yi Ning (GD), Claire (GK)

The whistle blew and we were off to a great start. Within a minute, KE had already scored a goal. But Sheares pushed steadily on, aggressively matching up, goal for goal. I knew then that this was going to be an intense match indeed. Supporters from both teams were equally excited, cheering enthusiastically for their respective halls.

The first quarter saw an amazing display of skills from Dawne, whose aiming was on point. With the incredible teamwork up on attack, KE was able to spring ahead, ending the first quarter with a score of 10-4.

Second Quarter

Lineup: Victoria (GS), Dawne (GA), Xifan (WA), Pearly (C), Klara (WD), Yi Ning (GD), Claire (GK)

The second quarter saw a change in line-up and the swapping of positions, listed below thanks to the help of dear captain Victoria. The KE netballers continued to defend hard against the Shearites, with Yi Ning and Claire intercepting countless balls. This helped widen the score between KE and Sheares, eventually ending the quarter with a score of 8-3, making the overall score 18-7.

Third Quarter

Lineup: Celeste (GS), Dawne (GA), Victoria (WA), Xifan I, Sherlyn (WD), Yi Ning (GD), Claire (GK)

Right before the start of the third quarter, more KE supporters flooded the netball court, full of energy from the badminton female finals. There are no words to describe how strong the KE spirit was that day.

It was clear from the start of the third quarter that Sheares was not about to give up and were determined to level the playing field. They managed to control the game, playing it mostly on their side of the court. However, the KE netballers still put up a tough fight, with goals scored by Celeste and Dawne boosting the team morale. KE managed to maintain their lead, ending the quarter with a score of 8-8 and an overall score of 26-15. It’s almost the end!!!

Fourth Quarter

Lineup: Victoria (GS), Dawne (GA), Xifan (WA), Pearly (C), Klara (WD), Yi Ning (GD), Claire (GK)

Now we were down to the last quarter with KE ahead of Sheares by 11 points. While we were in a comfortable position,there was no excuse for us to be complacent. The KE netball girls were well aware of this. Despite having played for all quarters, they showed perseverance, and somehow didn’t look tired at all. Or maybe I was just looking at Yi Ning… that explains it.

The KE netballers pushed on and they kept on fighting till the last whistle. Rebounds after rebounds were taken swiftly, and an amazing display of teamwork saw the netballers scoring and scoring, their opponents trailing behind. After a hard-fought battle, the KE netballers were triumphant, ending the match with an overall score of 34-18.

And they’re through to semi-finals!!! A convincing win for a deserving team. Well done KE netball!
